The Return of the Home Office
I've been feeling like a fish out of water for almost a week.  My wife has been on a remodeling spree and I just got hooked back up in my office.  She painted the walls and had the carpets replaced in my modest office and the living room.  The worst part was having to move the two huge bookcases, well actually all the books from the bookcases.  Alas, the books are still piled up in my dining room as I type this, but my computer is back where it belongs.

I realized, as I sat at the dining room table for the last few days and tried to type on my laptop, that I am a creature of habit.  A set of french doors sit just behind the table and I couldn't help but look over my shoulder as I typed.  It felt as though I had a critic stalking me from the darkness at my back.  Now I am back in my comfortable nook and the only thing at my back is a familiar wall.

Even with the dining room distractions I did manage to finish chapter 14 of Heart of Odin.  Now I'm off to tackle chapter 15.

I know what you mean about being a creature of habit. I'm always amazed by those writers who seem to be able to write anywhere. I can't even imagine sitting in a busy coffee shop with my laptop.

I think most writer's are working on their stories all the time. I know I am constantly reviewing ideas and story lines in my head where ever I'm at. But I'm with you--I can't sit down and write anything in a strange place. I have to be in a comfortable location. It's funny that my own dining room table is not a comfortable writing spot for me.
